Prohibition on the Use of Poaching Tools in Forests

During an inspection of the Lebedivka forest, which is part of the «Tuzlivski Lymany» National Park, a forester discovered and confiscated 8 poaching snares. The conservation service emphasizes that setting traps has serious ecological and legal implications.

This was reported by the administration of the «Tuzlivski Lymany» National Park.

Snares are primitive tools for catching birds and animals, typically used by poachers. They are set up in areas where wild animals (wild boars, otters, foxes, etc.) frequently move.

The negative consequences of using snares include:

  • injury and death of wild animals;
  • destruction of rare species;
  • disruption of ecosystems;
  • difficulties in detection due to their hidden nature.

Using snares is a serious violation of environmental protection laws.

According to Ukrainian legislation, any activity that harms natural complexes, including hunting, is prohibited.

Under the Criminal Code of Ukraine, illegal hunting is punishable by fines or imprisonment, along with confiscation of hunting tools.

Hunting regulations are defined by the Law of Ukraine «On Hunting Economy».

Illegal hunting includes:

  • hunting without proper permission;
  • hunting for species not listed in permits;
  • hunting in prohibited areas;
  • hunting at prohibited times;
  • using banned tools.

To be held accountable, it is sufficient to commit at least one type of illegal hunting.

The Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses provides for penalties for violations of wildlife use regulations.

Guardians also remind that forests in the Odessa region are off-limits during the martial law in Ukraine.
