For subscribed users, the lite version will automatically activate once the usage limit of the full Deep Research is reached. "Responses will be shorter, yet maintain the same depth and quality you are accustomed to," OpenAI states.
The tool operates based on the o4-mini model — a simplified version of the larger o4 model, which results in lower processing costs. This allows OpenAI to enhance usage limits.
