Regional Stage of School Leagues Kicks Off
The regional stage of the project «Side by Side. National School Leagues» has commenced in Odesa. This is a new format for large-scale student competitions initiated by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, under the slogan «Together We Will Win!».
This season features numerous sports disciplines. We also have an unprecedented number of participants – nearly 20 thousand players. In total, 2,440 teams from 541 schools in Odesa have registered!
Today, 8 strong futsal teams (boys) competed for a single ticket to the national final in two age categories (grades 5-9 and 9-11):
- Odesa General Education School No. 35,
- Velykomyhaylivskyi Lyceum,
- Pavlivskyi ZZS,
- Saratsky Lyceum,
- Nerubaysky Lyceum No. 1,
- Zatyshansky ZZS,
- Kamchytsky Lyceum,
- Voznesensky First Lyceum.
During the official opening of the competitions, Anton Shalyhailo, Deputy Head of the Odesa Regional State Administration, addressed the young athletes and their coaches.
To support the teams, one of the best scorers in the history of Ukrainian football, now a sports veteran and the project's ambassador, Oleksandr Kosyrin, who is also a member of the Ukrainian national football team and player for FC Chornomorets, known for scoring the fastest goal in the history of the Ukrainian Premier League in 2009, attended the event.
From the first minutes of the competition, the region's sports mascot – the active, cheerful, and friendly Friendly Dolphin – encouraged participants during the tense matches.
As a result of fierce matches in the 5-9 grade category, the team from Pavlivskyi Lyceum of Bolhrad district emerged victorious after defeating all their opponents.
Among the boys in grades 9-11, the strongest were the students of Kamchytsky Lyceum from Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi district.
