Honoring the Memory of Ukraine's Defenders in Odesa
On August 29, Memorial Day for fallen soldiers, a solemn event took place in Odesa at Taras Shevchenko Park to honor the heroes who sacrificed their lives for Ukraine's independence and territorial integrity.
The event was attended by local officials, families of the fallen, veterans, military personnel, civic organizations, and clergy.
This year, 82 new information stands were added to the Heroes' Alley, displaying the names of additional defenders. In total, 552 names are now commemorated here.
Odesa's Mayor Gennady Trukhanov expressed gratitude to those present: “Every step here reminds us of those who defended our right to live, love, and dream. Thanks to the bravery of our defenders, we see a peaceful sky above the city, hear children's laughter, and build a future. Today we are not only honoring but also thanking. We thank everyone who stood up to defend Ukraine. We thank the parents who raised such heroic sons and daughters.”
In connection with Memorial Day, families of the fallen received financial support of 10,000 hryvnias. Additionally, on Knowledge Day, children of our heroes—those whose parents were killed or went missing—will also receive 10,000 hryvnias.
Our city is like a big family that stands together. May this Alley be a place of strength, where our hearts may ache but are filled with pride. By visiting it, we know: Ukraine will endure! We will prevail!
