Homeless Man Arrested for Car Arson Out of Revenge

Police arrested a 50-year-old homeless man for setting fire to a car out of spite against its owner. He has been charged and a preventive measure has been chosen. He faces a potential prison sentence of up to 10 years.

This was reported by the press service of the National Police.

Recently, firefighters contacted the police about a fire involving a Volkswagen vehicle on one of the streets in the Peresyp district. Within three hours, investigators established that the car was set on fire by a 50-year-old homeless man.

Authorities seized several pieces of evidence for examination. They also discovered that the man committed the crime to take revenge on a 30-year-old car owner for not allowing him to enter the entrance of a building where his friend lives.

"We detained the suspect in procedural order and charged him with willful damage to someone else's property by arson. According to part 2 of Article 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, this crime is punishable by imprisonment for up to ten years. The court has chosen a preventive measure of detention with the right to post bail of 121,120 UAH. The extent of damages inflicted on the victim is being established. The investigation continues under the supervision of the Suvorov District Prosecutor's Office of Odesa," said Natalia Mrochko, deputy head of the investigative department of Police Department No. 3 of the Odesa District Police Department No. 1.
