Safety Tips for Residents During Icy Conditions
The local government of Odesa reminds residents about the importance of following safety measures during icy weather:
- Wear comfortable shoes with a stable, preferably textured sole. Avoid high heels.
- Move carefully on icy surfaces. It’s better to avoid slippery areas. Walk slowly, with slightly bent knees, distributing your weight evenly on your feet.
- Be especially cautious when crossing roads — do not run. Remember that a vehicle's stopping distance increases significantly on icy roads.
- At bus stops, stand back from the edge of the road to prevent slipping onto the roadway.
- Keep your hands out of your pockets while walking, as this increases the risk of injury if you fall. Use handrails when going down stairs.
- Pregnant women are advised not to go outside without accompaniment.
