Communicating with Veterans: Essential Strategies

Do you find it challenging to interact with people who have combat experience?

Get valuable advice to help you communicate respectfully through an interactive simulator designed for the educational series «People with War Experience. Dignity. Interaction».

For instance:

* late at night, you wake up to your partner, who just returned from the front lines, suddenly jolting you. He is still in a combat mindset, unaware that he is home. What should you do next?

* at work, a veteran colleague makes jokes about grim topics like death or war. How do you respond?

The simulator will present various options and provide expert explanations, helping you understand how your actions can affect your interactions with a veteran.

Remember, each person's experience is unique and requires an individualized approach. If you're unsure how to proceed, be honest, tolerant, and don't hesitate to ask questions.

For more information on how to interact appropriately with veterans, check out the educational series «People with War Experience. Dignity. Interaction», available on the Diia Education platform and the YouTube channel «How are you?»

This educational series was initiated by the Ministry of Digital Transformation as part of the communication campaign «How are you?», which is implemented under the initiative of First Lady Olena Zelenska. The project continues the section «Guide to Accessibility» and is supported by the Coordination Center for Mental Health of the Cabinet of Ministers, the NGO «Accessibility», and Visa, a participant in the «Business Without Barriers» community.
