Revamping Electric Transport in Odessa: New Horizons
The modernization and enhancement of electric transport in Odessa is a key focus for the city authorities.
Currently, around 80 trams operate on 13 routes. The most frequented is route No. 7, while the least served is route No. 20 with only 2 trams.
On September 30, 2024, another renovated Tatra T3 tram was put into service.
«Despite the ongoing conflict, we continue to enhance public transport in Odessa. This tram was refurbished using the company’s funds, costing 4 million hryvnias, while a new one starts from 18 million. I appreciate the team's dedication given the challenging circumstances,» said Odessa’s Mayor Gennady Trukhanov.
The refurbished tram has been entirely updated both externally and internally, featuring a new control system that is 40% more energy-efficient.
The Mayor also noted that there is an ongoing exploration of installing wheelchair lift mechanisms on older Tatra models.

The Tatra T3 tram was overhauled at the KP «Odessamiskelektrotrans» workshops at the company’s own expense. This is a unique example of capital repair.
For the first time during the overhaul, the interior of the passenger compartment and the driver's cabin were updated, new seating was installed, and a new heating system and driver’s cabin air conditioning were added, with glass installed using bonding methods, similar to retrofitting. Plans are in place to complete another similar tram by the end of 2024 and two trams in 2025.
Additionally, at the beginning of 2024, two units of the Tatra T-3-Od model were successfully serviced and are operating on the «North-South» route. They underwent capital restoration with retrofitting funded through the budget.
In 2025, similar capital restoration with retrofitting is planned for another four trams.
