Teen Charged with Serious Assault During Celebration
Authorities have charged a 19-year-old resident of the Odessa region with causing serious bodily harm to a minor friend. During a birthday celebration, the offender stabbed the victim in the chest with a knife. He faces up to eight years in prison for his actions.
The incident occurred a few days ago in a village of the Bilyaivka community, where a group of boys aged 17, 18, 19, and 21 were celebrating a friend's birthday at a private home. During the gathering, a dispute arose between two friends aged 19 and 17, escalating into a fight. During the altercation, the older one grabbed a knife from the table and stabbed the younger one in the chest.
"The victim's friends helped him get home, where his mother urgently took him to the hospital. Doctors diagnosed him with a penetrating stab wound to the chest," the report states.
Realizing the severity of his actions, the offender returned home and called the police. Officers arrived at the scene, established the circumstances of the incident, seized the weapon, and collected other physical evidence. The perpetrator was checked for intoxication – he was found to be inebriated.
"Based on the gathered evidence, we charged the individual with causing intentional serious bodily harm, which is life-threatening at the time of infliction. According to part 1 of article 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, this crime is punishable by imprisonment for up to eight years. The court has imposed a preventive measure of round-the-clock house arrest on the suspect. The investigation is ongoing. The procedural oversight in the case is conducted by the Bilyaivka District Prosecutor's Office," stated Dmitry Tkachenko, an investigator from the Odessa District Police Department No. 2.
