Reviving Collecting in Odessa
On December 23, 2024, the «#ARTODESSA» gallery in the Summer Theater of the City Garden hosted a significant conference titled «Odessa Collections».
The event gathered Odessa's collectors, cultural scholars, and local historians.
The main goal of the conference was to revive the tradition of collecting in Odessa to foster active collaboration in preserving Ukraine's historical and cultural heritage.
Participants discussed the prospects for preserving private collections, opportunities for their exhibition, museification, and cataloguing. A key aspect was the highlighted need for scientific research on collections.
Speakers at the event included Ivan Liptuga, Felix Kochrikt, Semen Kantor, Anna Golubovska, Taras Maksymyuk, Alexander Friedman, Sergey Sedyh, Dmitry Khamula, Denis Mitskevich, Alexander Surilov, Yulia Gurinenko, and Ekaterina Pimenova.
As a result of the conference, a publication on collecting titled «The Universe Called Odessa» is being prepared.
The conference was organized by the Department of Culture, International Cooperation, and European Integration of the Odessa City Council.
