Reviving Collecting Culture in Odessa
On December 23, 2024, the conference «Odessa Collections» took place at the «#ARTODESSA» gallery in the Summer Theater of the City Garden.
The event brought together collectors, cultural scholars, and local historians from Odessa.
The main goal of the conference was to revive the tradition of an active collectors' community in Odessa to address the preservation of Ukraine's historical and cultural heritage.
Participants discussed the prospects of preserving private collections, opportunities for their exhibition, museification, and cataloging. A crucial aspect highlighted was the need for scientific research on collections.
Speakers included Ivan Liptuga, Felix Kohrikht, Semen Kantor, Anna Holubovska, Taras Maksymiuk, Oleksandr Friedman, Serhiy Sedyh, Dmytro Khamula, Denys Mitskevych, Oleksandr Surylov, Yuliya Hurynenko, and Kateryna Pimenova.
As a result of the conference, a publication on collecting titled «Universe Named Odessa» is being prepared.
The conference was organized by the Department of Culture, International Cooperation, and European Integration of the Odessa City Council.
