Cultural Partnership Between Odesa and Vienna

The Mayor of Odesa, Hennadiy Trukhanov, along with Ivan Liptuga, the director of the Culture Department, met with Ernst Woller, the first president of the Vienna Parliament, and Alena Sirka-Bred, the head of the Office for European and International Relations of Vienna.

Odesa and Vienna have been fostering fruitful partnerships for many years, focusing on culture and heritage preservation.

During the meeting, Mr. Woller shared Vienna's experience in preserving architectural monuments and highlighted the management system of the UNESCO World Heritage site, the “Historic Centre of Vienna.”

Ernst Woller emphasized that preserving history is crucial for future generations in every city and country.

Austria has gone through difficult historical periods but has managed to maintain its architecture, culture, and arts, sometimes adapting the context while always safeguarding the achievements of past generations.

“Vienna is rightly considered a global capital of culture and arts, while also winning top awards in smart city innovation competitions,” Mr. Woller stated.

As Hennadiy Trukhanov noted, Odesa is a city of culture, literature, and music in Ukraine. This year, the city celebrates the tenth anniversary of the festival “Golden Violins of Odesa,” which connects us with Vienna.

“We are very pleased that our anniversary festival ‘Golden Violins of Odesa’ will take place in the capital of Austria. The experience of Vienna in balancing heritage preservation and urban development is incredibly beneficial for Odesa, especially as we work on managing our UNESCO heritage site amidst wartime conditions,” emphasized Hennadiy Trukhanov.
