Competition for the Lesia Ukrainka Monument in Odesa
In August 2025, the Executive Committee of the Odesa City Council decided to hold a competition for the best design proposal for a monument to Lesia Ukrainka, along with landscaping the surrounding area.
The Department of Architecture, Urban Planning, and Land Relations of the Odesa City Council was responsible for organizing the competition.
The purpose of the competition was to identify the best project proposal for a monument dedicated to the prominent writer and poet, as well as for the spatial and architectural planning of the adjacent park area.
The competition was conducted in one round until January 30, 2026. It was open to professional architects, sculptors, designers, students from architectural and construction higher education institutions, project organizations, author teams, and specialists in urban planning and architecture.
The Department of Architecture has summarized the results of the competition for the best design proposal for the monument to Lesia Ukrainka in Odesa.
A total of 12 project proposals were submitted.
The jury recommends the project that took first place for the development of design and estimate documentation and further implementation.
The first place was awarded to the project proposal under the motto No. 201953 (authors – sculptor Mykola Bylyk, architects Andrii Korstruba, Mariia Matushenko, Oleksandr Vovk).
The second place went to the project proposal under the motto No. 704020 (authors – sculptors Viktor Lipovka, Oleksandra Ruban, architects Andrii Danylenko, Kateryna Lipovka).
The third place was awarded to the work under the motto No. 250271 (authors – sculptor Anastasiia Kozminska, architects Mykola Chepelev, Mykola Volkov).
According to the terms and program of the competition, monetary prizes will be awarded to the author teams.
The Odesa City Council has determined the location for the installation of the monument to Lesia Ukrainka – in the park at the corner of Fontanska Road and Lesia Ukrainka Avenue (formerly Gagarin Avenue).
