Laughter and Joy in Odesa: Celebrating Humorina
On April 1st in Odesa, as part of the Humorina celebration, actors from the «Mask» theater held a vibrant show in the city garden.
This was reported by the correspondent of Ukrinform.
The performers entertained the audience with songs, dances, and poetry. A fun quiz also took place, where tickets to the «Mask» theater performances were raffled off.
«We live in a world where we need to counter negativity with positivity. Laughter is what makes us happy. I see how people's faces change after our performances. When audience members tell me that they smiled for the first time in years thanks to us, that's the greatest reward», - shares his impressions Boris Burskiy, the director of the «Mask» theater.
Theater actor Oleksandr Postolenko noted that the need for laughter among Odesans is always significant, especially during wartime.
«We all need to distract ourselves, but we must not forget about the war. Creating, loving, and laughing are natural aspects of life that cannot be forbidden», - said the artist.
Humorina has been held in Odesa since the 1970s, founded by the authors of the Odesa KVN team «Business People». Initially, the festival took place in the stadium with parades, carnival processions, and concerts. In 1976, the festival was banned, but it was revived in the late 1980s.
In 2014, Humorina was canceled due to the country’s difficult situation, but a «Comedyada» took place, a mini-festival by the «Mask» theater. In 2017, thousands of Odesans celebrated again, wearing clown costumes. During the pandemic, the festival was held online.
In 2022, despite the start of the full-scale invasion by Russia, Odesans held Humorina-Dzhavilina with a charity online marathon to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In 2023, on the 50th anniversary of Humorina, the actors of the «Mask» theater and the National Guard orchestra congratulated the people of Odesa. In 2024, the «Mask» theater plans to hold a «budget version» of Humorina in the city garden.
