Rehabilitated Pelican Released Back into Nature

The national park 'Tuzly Lagoons' in the Odesa region has welcomed a rehabilitated pelican back into the wild. This bird now joins a colony of over 200 individuals of this rare and protected species.

Dr. Ivan Rusev, a biologist at the 'Tuzly Lagoons' national park, stated that the pelican underwent extensive rehabilitation. Initially, it was in Bulgaria, then transferred to Zhytomyr region, and finally brought to Odesa for release into its natural habitat.

"After receiving a blue ring with the number UA003, it was released yesterday at the Tuzly Lagoons, where over 200 pelicans are currently residing," commented Ivan Rusev on the release.

Releasing birds back into the wild after rehabilitation has become a common practice for the national park. This effort supports the conservation of pelicans, which are listed in the Red Book of Ukraine and require special protection.

The national park 'Tuzly Lagoons' serves as a nesting and resting site for many rare and endangered bird species during migration.
