Promoting Dignified Aging: Round Table in Odesa

In Odesa, a round table titled «Unity for a Dignified Old Ag» took place in honor of the International Day of Older Persons.

The event aimed to draw attention to the issues faced by elderly individuals and unite efforts to improve their quality of life.

It was organized by the Charitable Foundation «Caritas Odesa UGCC» in collaboration with the Department of Labor and Social Policy of the Odessa City Council.

Participants included the advisor to the mayor on social and humanitarian issues, Veronika Etnarovich, representatives from social service agencies, and organizations such as «April Tenth» and the «Red Cross of Ukraine».

Olena Kytayska, the department director, emphasized that the government aims to integrate seniors into society and enhance their living conditions.

The attendees discussed several important topics:

  • support for seniors in Odesa;
  • results of a survey on the needs of elderly citizens;
  • challenges faced by seniors during the war;
  • the situation of internally displaced persons and their needs;
  • providing dignified care for the elderly.

The event served as a vital platform for exchanging experiences between local authorities and the civil sector.

At the conclusion, participants explored opportunities for enhancing cooperation in social service provision.

The International Day of Older Persons was established by the UN on December 14, 1990, to protect the rights of older people and raise awareness about aging issues.
