Maintenance of Hydraulic Structures in Odesa: Importance and Techniques

To maintain and prevent issues with vital hydraulic structures, the specialists of the municipal enterprise "City Roads" in Odesa conduct regular cleaning operations.

The buffer pond, Romanian canal, and Kuyalnik ditches are designed for draining rainwater, snowmelt, and other runoff from the city's streets.

Using specialized equipment, the workers clear the channels and pond from vegetation, debris, and sludge. They pay particular attention to the most clogged areas, especially where runoff from residential sectors accumulates.

The Kuyalnik ditch, which is the main drainage channel, stretches 4650 meters along the Vapnyana and Khadjibey roads, extending through filtration fields to the drainage pumping station. It effectively diverts drainage, rain, and meltwater from the nearby neighborhoods.

Regular cleaning of storm drains and sewer collectors throughout the city is also carried out. Heavy machinery, including excavators, graders, and specialized washing units, is employed in these operations.

In cases of heavy rainfall, these tasks are performed on an emergency basis.
