Celebrating 35 Years of Friendship Between Odesa and Gdańsk

Next year, Odesa and Gdańsk will commemorate 35 years of their friendly relations. To mark this occasion, a festive concert and other events are scheduled in Gdańsk as part of the «Odesa Goes Visiting» project in the spring.
During the visit to the sister city, the Odesa delegation discussed the organizational details of the cultural program.
A significant focus was on developing professional collaboration. Invited by the Polish side, the Odesa delegation participated in the BALEXPO 2025 international exhibition, where key topics included port infrastructure, logistics, and innovations.

«This was an opportunity to showcase the potential of our community and neighboring communities, as well as to reaffirm our commitment to joint development with European partners,» said Olena Zakharchenko-Netuzhilova, Deputy Director and Head of the International Relations Department of the Department of International Cooperation, Culture, and Marketing.

During the meetings, the following issues were discussed:

  • expanding partnership connections;
  • sharing experiences of Eurointegration at the local level;
  • joint project development to attract funding from European funds;
  • inter-municipal cooperation among neighboring communities;
  • Ukrainian practices in civil protection and rapid response by authorities in wartime conditions.

«Partnership with Odesa is about trust, joint initiatives, and the desire to move forward together,» emphasized Gdańsk Deputy Mayor Piotr Grzelak.

Gdańsk is a port city on the Baltic Sea in Poland, known for its rich history, multicultural heritage, and strategic importance. Like Odesa, it blends maritime trade, architectural beauty, and a spirit of renewal.
