Fishing Regulations Violated in Izmail

In early October, during a patrol, the water police of the Izmail district, in collaboration with the Odessa Fish Protection Patrol, discovered a 63-year-old man unloading prohibited bioresources from a boat at Lake Katlabug.

This was reported by the police.

Investigators arrived at the scene and seized the boat, 150-meter-long gill nets, and 69 fish, including crucian carp, carp, silver carp, bream, and pikeperch. The illegal catch has been transferred to a specialized facility for safekeeping.

According to the results of the engineering and ecological examination, the damage caused to the state amounted to nearly 209 thousand hryvnias.

The fisherman admitted his guilt and explained that he was aware of the ban on using gill nets but still used them for personal needs.

During the pre-trial investigation, conducted under the procedural guidance of the Izmail District Prosecutor's Office, police established all circumstances of the offense, collected sufficient evidence, and filed charges against the suspect for illegal fishing, which caused significant damage. The indictment was submitted to the court under Part 1 of Article 249 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The maximum penalty provided by this sanction is three years of restriction of liberty.
