City Council Meeting: New Initiatives for Odessa
On December 12, 2024, a regular meeting of the City Tripartite Socio-Economic Council was held.
Attending were: Deputy Mayor of Odessa Pavlo Vugelman, Chairman of the Odessa Regional Trade Union Federation Vyacheslav Buratynskiy, and Chairman of the Odessa Employers' Organization Yevhen Drozd, alongside department heads and representatives from trade unions.
The meeting agenda included the following significant issues:
- implementation of the project for building electrical stations to ensure energy security;
- progress on the City Target Program for providing non-repayable financial assistance to homeowners associations for energy modernization;
- organization of career orientation work in community-owned educational institutions.
Economic stability is a crucial factor for the city.
Valeriy Ivanov, Director of the city’s heating supply company, informed participants about measures to ensure energy security during martial law. In 2023, a Memorandum was signed between the Odessa City Council and the UN to create a distributed generation system based on gas piston cogeneration units.
The first two units have already been received, and installation work is underway to connect them to energy grids.
“This project will help Odessa become more resilient to energy challenges faced during previous blackouts,” emphasized the speaker.
Maria Lisnichenko, Deputy Head of the Tariff Policy Department, provided information on the progress of the “Energy House” program supporting homeowners associations in energy efficiency matters.
In 2024, 11 homeowners associations received non-repayable financial assistance totaling over 3.7 million UAH. The implementation of this program will continue in 2025.
A stable economy is essential for quality employment, especially for youth. The Department of Education and Science shared information about initiatives to enhance student awareness in choosing future professions.
The final part of the meeting focused on the Council's activities for the upcoming 2025 year.
