UN Delegation Visits Social Support Center in Odesa
The UN humanitarian coordination team is currently in Odesa, led by Mr. Matthias Schmale, the humanitarian coordinator for Ukraine.
Today, on October 15, 2024, the delegation visited the city’s Psychological Support Center for individuals affected by armed conflict, where approximately 100 displaced persons reside.
UN representatives learned about the living conditions of the residents, engaging in discussions with the displaced individuals and center staff.
In addition to living quarters, the center features a psychologist's office, children's learning and play areas, large laundry facilities, a kitchen, a dining room, and an assembly hall.
The center regularly hosts workshops and activities for children, while adults have opportunities to learn new skills and find employment.
According to the center's staff, charitable organizations and international missions provide comprehensive support to those temporarily living there.
«We are concerned about assisting internally displaced persons. I see that this center has created comfortable living conditions for those who had to leave their homes. It is one of the best centers in Ukraine,» said Mr. Matthias Schmale.
The advisor to the Odessa city mayor on social and humanitarian issues, Veronika Etnarovich, mentioned that the possibility of establishing another such center in Odesa is currently being explored.
