UN Delegation Visits Odesa: New Initiatives and Collaboration
A delegation from the United Nations has arrived in Odesa, led by the UN humanitarian coordinator in Ukraine, Mr. Matthias Schmale.
The main goal of the visit is to analyze the current situation and identify ways for further collaboration.
On October 15, 2024, during a meeting with Acting Mayor Oleksandr Filatov and advisor Veronika Etnarovych, Mr. Schmale discussed security and humanitarian needs in Odesa amidst military actions, support for internally displaced persons, and preparations for winter.
The parties also reviewed plans for continued collaboration with charities and international partners.
Delegation members visited the Social and Psychological Assistance Center, currently housing about 100 displaced individuals, and learned about their living conditions.
Mr. Schmale noted that the Center is one of the best in Ukraine, as it provides comfortable living conditions for those forced to leave their homes.
On October 16, the UN delegation visited 6 Sofiivska Street, where emergency repairs are being conducted on the roof of a residential building through cooperation between charity organizations and local utilities.
Summarizing the visit, Matthias Schmale expressed solidarity with the Ukrainian people and emphasized the importance of international support for ensuring stability amid the ongoing conflict.
«I was pleased to hear the priorities of the city government – we discussed energy infrastructure needs, winter preparations, and support for internally displaced persons,» said Mr. Schmale.
