Arrest of Man for Illegal Weapons and Drug Trafficking

A 37-year-old man has been charged under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and placed in custody. He faces up to eight years in prison for his offenses.

Officers from the Odessa District Police Department No. 2 discovered that a resident of Vygodyanska community possessed ammunition and narcotics, seeking buyers for them.

During the investigation, law enforcement documented the suspect selling two grenades and a package of narcotic substances, receiving 5500 hryvnias in return.

Involving explosives experts, investigators seized grenade bodies with fuses, which preliminary conclusions indicated were functional military munitions. They also confiscated a substance identified as narcotic and cash.

Additionally, during a sanctioned search at the suspect's residence, several zip bags containing similar plant substances, packaging tools, and over a hundred cartridges were found. Part of the seized items has been sent for expert examination.

According to Andriy Donets, the head of the Odessa District Police Department No. 2, the offender was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine and charged with illegal acquisition, storage for sale, and illegal sale of narcotics (Part 1, Article 307 of the Criminal Code) as well as illegal possession and sale of ammunition without legal permission (Part 1, Article 263 of the Criminal Code).

Upon the investigators' request, the court has chosen custody as a preventive measure for the suspect. He faces up to eight years in prison for the offenses.

Authorities are continuing to establish all circumstances of the crime, including the channels through which the “goods” reached the suspect. The Bilayaivka District Prosecutor's Office oversees the case.
