Illegal Arms Trade in Odesa
Authorities have removed dangerous items from illegal circulation, and the suspect has been charged. He faces a significant prison sentence.
Officers from police department No. 2 documented how a 33-year-old local man sold military supplies to a stranger on two occasions. Initially – 50 rounds for a rifled firearm, and later – three bodies of fragmentation grenades and their fuses.
With the involvement of explosives experts, the dangerous items were seized and sent for examination. Their classification as military supplies was confirmed by expert assessments and preliminary conclusions from bomb technicians.
The suspect was detained in accordance with legal procedures, and based on the gathered evidence, he was charged with illegal acquisition, possession, storage, and sale of military supplies without the required legal permit. This crime is classified under part 1 of article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and is punishable by imprisonment for up to seven years.
The court has set a preventive measure for the suspect in the form of custody with the right to post bail of 60,560 UAH, which he has utilized.
Authorities will investigate how the suspect obtained the ammunition during the pre-trial investigation.
The investigation is ongoing under the procedural guidance of the Primorsky District Prosecutor's Office in Odesa.
