Police have apprehended a resident of Podilskyi district for illegally taking a vehicle. The suspect decided to steal a car because he did not want to walk home. He has been charged and a preventive measure has been imposed. He faces imprisonment along with asset confiscation.

Law enforcement officials reported that the incident occurred in one of the villages of the Zelenohirska community. The police received a call from a local resident stating that an unknown individual had stolen his VAZ car during the night.

"The police located the vehicle on the outskirts of the village, near the crime scene, and within the same day, they identified and arrested the suspect at his residence. He turned out to be a 26-year-old man previously convicted for property crimes", - the statement reads.

The suspect explained that upon seeing a car parked in an unguarded yard, he decided to drive it home. The vehicle was unlocked, and he started the engine by connecting the ignition wires. This pertains to the repeated illegal appropriation of a vehicle. This crime is punishable by imprisonment for up to eight years with or without asset confiscation. The court has chosen to impose a preventive measure of detention.
