Cruelty to Animals: Incident in Berezivka
A shocking incident occurred in the Berezivka community when a man shot a friend's dog with an air rifle. He now faces criminal charges.
This event took place in February, when a local resident heard whining in a neighbor's yard and discovered the dead animal.
Upon arrival, the police learned that a 25-year-old man from a nearby village had come to visit friends, where he consumed alcohol. During the conversation, he found out that the owners' pet allegedly stole chickens. To punish the dog, he decided to shoot it in the eye.
A veterinary forensic examination confirmed that the dog died from cerebral swelling caused by the gunshot wound.
The police quickly identified the perpetrator and seized the weapon, which turned out to be a single-shot air rifle of 4.5 mm caliber.
After gathering sufficient evidence, the police informed the suspect of the charges of animal cruelty resulting in the animal's death. According to Ukrainian law, he faces imprisonment of up to three years.
The investigation continues under the supervision of the Berezivka district prosecutor's office.
