Robbery Incident in Odesa: Criminal Apprehended
A suspect approached the victim under the pretense of conversation and, at the right moment, snatched valuable jewelry from him. The individual has a history of convictions, having spent over 11 years in prison. He now faces up to 10 years of imprisonment.
A 33-year-old man reported to the police that he had been robbed in the city center. Law enforcement quickly responded to the call and apprehended the offender, who was hiding in the entrance of a residential building.
According to Irina Yablonska, the deputy head of the investigative department of Police Station No. 1 in the Odesa District Police Department No. 2, the perpetrator noticed a gold chain with a cross on the neck of an unfamiliar citizen, approached him, intentionally started a conversation, and at the right moment suddenly ripped off the jewelry and fled.
The total value of the stolen property amounted to 35 thousand hryvnias, but the offender was unable to utilize it. He refused to provide explanations regarding his illegal actions.
The apprehended individual has prior convictions for theft, robbery, and attempted murder. In total, he has spent over 11 years in correctional facilities.
“We have informed him of the suspicion of open theft of someone else's property, which constitutes a repeated robbery under martial law. According to part 4 of Article 186 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, this crime is punishable by imprisonment for up to 10 years. The suspect is currently in a temporary detention facility, and we are determining the appropriate preventive measure, which may include detention,” added Police Captain Irina Yablonska.
The investigation is ongoing under the procedural guidance of the Black Sea District Prosecutor's Office.
