Exhibition Highlighting Planetary Ecological Challenges

On April 24, an extraordinary photography exhibition focusing on the beauty and vulnerability of our planet will open at the «Dialogues» gallery on Sobornaya Square, 2 in Odesa.

This was announced by the National Antarctic Scientific Center.

The exhibition, a collaborative Ukrainian-Peruvian project, is titled «Planet on the Edge: Vulnerable Worlds of Antarctica and Amazon». It combines images from two vastly different ecosystems: the warm Amazonian forests and the icy Antarctic.

Featuring 36 photographs, the exhibition pairs images to highlight the shared challenges faced by these distinct environments: human impact on nature, endangered species, and breathtaking beauty.

The Amazon photographs were taken by Freddy F. Ramirez, a researcher from the National University of the Peruvian Amazon, primarily throughout 2024.

The Antarctic images were captured by Ukrainian scientists who worked on the icy continent between 2019 and 2024.

Researchers noted that both ecosystems are undergoing irreversible changes, with record droughts in the Amazon and melting glaciers in Antarctica serving as «symptoms» of climate change.

The images will show the current state of these ecosystems and how local flora and fauna are responding.

The exhibition opens on April 24 at 18:00 at the «Dialogues» gallery on Sobornaya, 2.

Evgen Dykyi, the director of the National Antarctic Scientific Center, will participate in the opening.

The venue is located in a basement, ensuring protection.

The exhibition will run until May 3. Admission is free.
