Anna Muzychuk Wins Bronze at the 2025 World Team Championship in Rapid and Blitz
Ukrainian grandmaster Anna Muzychuk, representing the "Freedom" team, secured a bronze medal at the 2025 World Team Championship in Rapid and Blitz.
Following her victory over reigning world champion Ju Wenjun at the prestigious Norway Chess tournament, where she clinched gold, Anna competed in her second team world championship in Rapid and Blitz held in London.
In the "Freedom" team, alongside Anna, were nine other chess players, including five-time world champion Viswanathan Anand. A total of 54 teams participated, competing in 12 rounds under the Swiss system, with six players per team.
The former world champion of 2016 in Rapid and Blitz played six games at the team championship: she won one match against Shoka Gaalem from "Team Hungary", had four draws, and suffered a loss to Elina Rebers from "Knight Dance" in the final, 12th game. This earned the team three points.
At the end of the 12 rounds, the "Freedom" team scored 17 points and won bronze medals. The championship was won by "Team MGD1" with 21 points, and the silver went to "Hexamind Chess Team" with 20 points.
As of June, Anna Muzychuk is ranked seventh in the FIDE ratings with 2535 points.
