Exhibition of Remembrance
On June 7, the Odessa Museum of Western and Eastern Art will host the opening of an exhibition titled «The Air of War». The creator is a serving member of the Ukrainian Armed Forces whose identity remains confidential.
The museum announced the event on its official social media platforms.
The initial motivation for this installation arose from the personal experience of losing comrades and the attempt to cope with trauma. The concept of a memory space was born in the author's mind as a place where every fallen comrade can symbolically exist, as stated in the exhibition's release.
The project is entirely confidential: no names, surnames, or personal data of military personnel are mentioned; there is no information that could reveal military secrets or the identity of the author, who continues to serve.
The installation will consist of 88 canvases, each named after the date of a comrade's death.
The curator of the project is Yulia Tomashevskaya-Harachuk. During the opening, there will also be a lecture by the curator of the memory culture platform Past/Future/Art, Oksana Dovhopolova.
The museum has specifically warned that there will be an age restriction: children under 16 are not permitted.
On the opening day, entry will be free. After that, tickets will cost up to 100 UAH. Entry is free for those who have been temporarily displaced from their homes.
