Digital Reconstruction of the Odessa Archaeological Museum

Researchers from the "Archaica" laboratory have completed a digital reconstruction of the Odessa Archaeological Museum, utilizing dozens of scans and over a thousand photographs. The object was documented in its current state for future analysis, as announced by the researchers on their Facebook page.

During the project, the team conducted 70 scans and took approximately 1,500 photos. One of the main challenges was the roof of the museum, which was difficult to capture due to drone usage restrictions related to the state of war and the absence of tall structures nearby.

As a result, the team decided to combine several methods. Some images were captured directly from the roof. On the ground, special markers were placed that appeared in frames from different angles, allowing the fragments of images to be merged into a cohesive model. Overall, 600 photos were used for the roof.

In addition to external scanning, archaeologists also performed digital imaging inside the museum. The created interior layout is intended for the museum's own needs. The project involved six people, one scanner, and two cameras.

The 3D model captures the current state of the building, enabling ongoing monitoring of its technical condition, especially concerning potential damage due to military actions.
