New Ukrainian Cinema: A Journey into History
Last year, the beginning of filming for the biographical drama «Odessa Life» was announced. This film is the first to depict the life of a Ukrainian director who lived and worked in Odessa from 1926 to 1929.
The next phase of filming is scheduled for April-May this year, as stated by the Odessa Film Studio.
Shooting will take place on the streets of Odessa, at the locations of the Odessa Film Studio, as well as in Kyiv.
«This film is a tribute to Odessa in 1926, a city that was a literary, cinematic, and artistic hub; a tribute to Odessa, which recovered from the First World War and the Civil War; Odessa, which thrived under the NEP, showcasing resilience and vitality. Odessa, where cinema, poetry, jazz, and boxing flourish…», – wrote on the page of the Odessa Film Studio.
The director of the Odessa Film Studio, Andriy Osipov, noted that the studio finished the previous year with a profit and is currently a stable enterprise. Therefore, they are not only continuing to shoot a unique historical film about Dovzhenko but are also working on new projects.
