Launching a New Project for Museum Collection Management in Ukraine
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved a new resolution to launch an experimental project — the Museum Fund Registry of Ukraine. This digital system will consolidate data on all museum artifacts, ensuring their accounting, preservation, and protection. The new initiative aims to enhance transparency and control in this area.
«Every museum will have its own cabinet and free access to a unified interface. The digital registry will allow monitoring, inventorying, and controlling the movement of museum treasures both in Ukraine and abroad. It will also provide access to information on museum collections and data on the search and return of stolen or lost exhibits. Thanks to this registry, we will be able to implement other projects, such as evacuation, more efficiently. This is a crucial step for preserving our cultural heritage», emphasized the Deputy Prime Minister for Humanitarian Policy of Ukraine, Minister of Culture, Tetiana Berezhna.
The resolution is necessary for organizing processes related to the collection, preservation, protection, and processing of information about museum items and collections belonging to the state part of the Museum Fund of Ukraine.
The registry will enable monitoring, inventory control, and tracking the movement of museum treasures, as well as provide tools for accessing information about the search and return of stolen or lost exhibits. Additionally, the system will offer convenient and secure access to data about museum collections.
The registry will allow:
- recording each museum item in digital form;
- controlling the movement of exhibits in Ukraine and abroad;
- responding quickly in cases of disappearance or theft of cultural values;
- creating a database for the return of lost museum items;
- generating analytics on the status of museum collections.
The experimental project will last for up to two years. During this time, technical solutions will be tested, the interaction of the Registry with other electronic systems will be established, and the circle of users will be defined.
The establishment of the Registry is a significant step towards preserving the Museum Fund of Ukraine and enhancing the role of museums in shaping contemporary Ukrainian culture.
