Preparing Schools in Odesa for the New Academic Year
As the new academic year approaches, educational institutions in Odesa are undergoing intensive preparation efforts.
The main priority is the safety of children: currently, 90 out of 120 schools already have their own shelters. Modernization is ongoing.
A vivid example is School No. 62, where engineers successfully relocated a complex communication system, deepened the basement floor, and reinforced the foundation. Now, over 500 children can learn simultaneously in their home school.
The shelter will also be open to local residents.
At School No. 122, the existing shelter is being expanded, the gym is being renovated, and STEM laboratories are being created — steps that indicate not only protection but also educational development and early specialization.
Both schools had previously suffered from shelling. Today, educators and builders are fully restoring their functionality.
«We are not just repairing walls; we are creating a safe, comfortable, and inspiring environment where children want to grow and develop,» commented Odesa's Deputy Mayor Pavlo Vugelman.
Overall, nearly 325 million UAH has been allocated this year for repair work in the city's education sector. Work is also being carried out in Lyceums No. 125 and Mykhailivskyi, and Gymnasiums No. 12 and 61.
Thanks to international partners, Kindergarten No. 14 is being restored, and Kindergarten No. 29 is already welcoming children.
«Thanks to all those involved — educators, builders, deputies, parents, and partners. Childhood is unique, and caring for it is the true essence for Odesa,» said the Director of the Department of Education and Science, Olena Buinevych.
