The Connection Between English Proficiency and Digital Literacy in Ukraine
How are English skills connected to the digital literacy of Ukrainians?
Recent studies show that 51% of the adult population in Ukraine has at least basic knowledge of English, while 23% possess a high level of proficiency. There is a clear correlation between English knowledge and income level: 52% of high-income individuals are proficient in English, compared to just 12% among those with low income.
The Ministry of Digital Transformation recently presented the results of a 2023 study on the digital literacy of Ukrainians, emphasizing the relationship between digital skills and English proficiency. It turns out that English skills are one of the indicators of life satisfaction. Among those without any digital skills, 60.4% also do not know English.
The English language serves as a crucial tool for enhancing digital skills and opens up new opportunities. To achieve a high level of English proficiency, Ukrainians can utilize platforms like Empower and Promova, which are available through the national language program Future Perfect.
