New Initiative for Children's Online Safety in Ukraine

Recent studies indicate that Ukrainian children begin using the internet at the age of five, spending at least an hour online daily. For teenagers, this number is even higher—79% spend over three hours a day online. This raises concerns about their safety in the digital environment.

To combat cyberbullying, fraud, and unwanted content, a new project called the “Safe Internet Center” has been launched in Ukraine. This initiative is implemented by several NGOs, including “Magnolia”, “La Strada-Ukraine”, and “Docudays”.

The center operates in three main areas:

Hotline StopCrime

This hotline accepts reports of sexual violence against children online, assists in blocking such materials, and collaborates with the international network INHOPE. The StopCrime project has been initiated with the support of the Ministry of Digital Transformation, Diya.Education, and the Cyber Police Department of Ukraine to address online violence against children.

Support Line for Children and Youth 116111

The national hotline 116111 provides psychological and legal assistance to children who have fallen victim to online violence or encountered other internet threats.

Educational Activities

The center conducts informational campaigns aimed at children, parents, educators, law enforcement, and anyone interested in learning more about digital hygiene.

Safer Internet Centers are a common practice in EU countries and are supported within the Insafe network. The Ministry of Digital Transformation collaborates with European partners to create a safe digital environment for children and ensure their rights are protected online.
