Celebrating Journalists' Day in Ukraine

June 6 is celebrated as Journalists' Day in Ukraine.

Journalists' Day − Greetings

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, General Oleksandr Syrskyi, and the Security Service of Ukraine sent their greetings to media workers, thanking them for their courage, professionalism, and essential work during wartime, while also honoring the memory of those who lost their lives on duty.

President Zelensky's Greeting

In his address, the head of state expressed gratitude to every journalist and all media staff, highlighting their crucial role.

“The world knows what is happening in Ukraine. Every country is aware of our position, and this would be impossible without thousands of our media professionals,” – noted Zelensky.

He emphasized that the professionalism, bravery, and energy of Ukrainian journalists are vital for the nation.

“Thank you! Congratulations on Journalists' Day. Please remember the names of journalists whose lives this war has taken since February 24 and since 2014. They deserve to be remembered,” – stressed the President.

General Syrskyi's Greeting

The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine also warmly congratulated journalists on their professional holiday.

“In these challenging times for our country, you convey the truth about the heroic struggle of the Ukrainian people and the voices of our defenders to society and the world,” – stated General Syrskyi.

He described the work of journalists as invaluable for the military, society, and the international community.

“You help preserve historical memory, boost the morale of our soldiers, and foster national unity,” – added the Commander-in-Chief.

General Syrskyi also noted that many Ukrainian journalists, driven by a strong sense of justice, joined the Defense Forces from the very first days of the invasion.

“Today, we deeply honor those who gave their lives in the line of duty. Their bravery and self-sacrifice are a timeless example of serving the freedom of speech and Ukraine. Their memory will live on in our hearts,” – he explained.

Greeting from the Security Service of Ukraine

The Security Service of Ukraine emphasized the dangerous conditions media workers face: “Amid sirens in the rear and shelling at the front, you work where it is crucial to reveal the truth.”

“Journalists have become the eyes of the world in this war, documenting the courage, pain, and victories of Ukrainians. Thanks to you, the international community understands the true cost of freedom,” – stated the SBU.
