Revitalizing Odessa's Architectural Heritage

Odessa is renowned for its rich architectural heritage, boasting over 2000 unique monuments and culturally significant sites.

Many of these require modernization to adhere to accessibility principles for everyone.

The Mayor of Odessa, Gennady Trukhanov, and his advisor on barrier-free spaces, Alexey Morozov, held a working meeting with UNDP representative and architect Artem Moiseenko, an expert in architectural accessibility.

Odessa plans to apply for a competition for barrier-free project routes. The discussion highlighted the development of tourist routes in the city’s historic center.

Topics included creating adapted movement paths, installing navigation elements, ramps, and handrails to facilitate comfortable and safe access for individuals with diverse needs.

Particularly, the meeting focused on ensuring full architectural accessibility for the Odessa City Council building.
