Devastating Effects of the Heavy Rain in Odesa
Due to an extreme weather event in Odesa on September 30, 2025, a powerful rainstorm resulted in two months' worth of precipitation falling in just one day. This led to substantial damage for the local community: roads and homes were flooded, electricity was lost in several areas, public transport was disrupted, property was damaged, and trees were uprooted.
Unfortunately, despite the prompt response to the disaster involving all emergency services and municipal enterprises of Odesa, as well as volunteer groups and the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the Odesa region, the impact of the storm resulted in human casualties.
In memory of the victims, October 2, 2025, has been declared a Day of Mourning in Odesa.
The State Flag of Ukraine and the Odesa flag will be flown at half-mast.
Businesses, institutions, and organizations in the city are advised to limit music use and refrain from hosting entertainment events.
The Mayor of Odesa, the Odesa City Council, and its Executive Committee express their condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims.
