Corruption in Healthcare: Neurologist Under Investigation
Under the supervision of the Kyiv District Prosecutor's Office in Odessa, a neurologist from a private clinic has been exposed and charged with receiving illegal benefits for influencing the decision of a public official (Part 3 of Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
According to the investigation, the doctor promised a serviceman that she could «resolve his issue» regarding his discharge from service due to health reasons. She claimed that she could influence the members of the military medical commission, prepare the necessary medical history, and extend his hospitalization.
The doctor valued her «services» at 4500 USD, demanding a prepayment of 3000 USD, while planning to collect the remaining amount after the treatment was completed.
She was apprehended in her office while receiving the first part of the bribe.
The full circle of participants involved in this illegal scheme is being established.
The pre-trial investigation is conducted by the SV ORUP No. 1 of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Odessa region, with operational support from the Odessa Department of the National Police’s DWB.
Note: According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a court verdict.
