Odesa Resident Charged with Bribery
Under the leadership of prosecutors from the Odesa District Prosecutor's Office, a 57-year-old resident of Odesa has been charged with receiving an illegal benefit for influencing a decision by a person authorized to perform state functions (Part 2 of Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
According to investigative data, the suspect, utilizing his connections among officials of city and regional clinical hospitals, offered a conscripted individual to "resolve the issue" regarding the acquisition of medical documents necessary for disability group determination.
The wrongdoer assured that he could "assist" in the expedited processing of the required documentation and subsequently secure the issuance of a pension certificate. The cost of such a "service" was set at 8,000 US dollars.
Law enforcement apprehended the suspect while he was receiving the first part of the bribe – 6,500 US dollars.
Efforts are underway to identify all participants involved in the illegal earnings scheme.
Measures to uncover the illegal activity were conducted by prosecutors in collaboration with investigators from the Investigative Department No. 1 of the Odesa Regional Police, with operational support from employees of the Department for Combating Corruption of the National Police of Ukraine.
Note: According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in accordance with the law and established by a court verdict.
