Fatal Dispute Between Tenant and Landlord
During a gathering, a drunken tenant fatally stabbed his landlord and fled to the capital. The perpetrator will spend nine years behind bars.
The incident occurred in March of last year in the apartment of a 63-year-old man in Odessa on Breus Street. When he stopped responding to calls from friends, they sought help from the police. Upon arrival, officers found him unresponsive.
Initial investigative actions revealed that a 53-year-old man from another region, who had rented a room from the victim for several weeks, was involved in the death.
During the pre-trial investigation, it was found that a day before the body was discovered, a conflict arose between the men during a drunken conversation, during which the tenant inflicted stab wounds to the victim's chest and back. After the act, the assailant fled to Kyiv, where he was soon apprehended by the police.
Crime analysts using a mobile DNA laboratory examined biological traces collected during the initial investigative actions, confirming the suspect’s involvement in the crime. According to forensic medical examination, the cause of death was penetrating stab wounds to the chest causing lung damage and hemorrhage in the pleural cavities.
Police Department Chief Mykola Kulchytsky reported that following a request from law enforcement, the suspect was taken into custody. After gathering sufficient evidence, investigators charged him with intentional murder and forwarded the indictment to the court.
After reviewing the evidence provided by law enforcement, the court found the defendant guilty of murdering the landlord and sentenced him to nine years of imprisonment. He admitted his guilt and expressed sincere remorse.
