Tragic Incident in Odesa: Grandmother Accidentally Injures Granddaughter
A tragic event occurred in a village in the Odesa region: a 50-year-old grandmother accidentally shot and injured her 5-year-old granddaughter while trying to hide an air rifle. This was reported by the National Police.
Yesterday, April 20, medical personnel rushed the girl to the Odesa Regional Children's Clinical Hospital with injuries to her jaw and neck. Law enforcement officials investigating the incident learned that the woman intended to conceal the rifle from her grandchildren at home and accidentally pulled the trigger, striking her granddaughter who was nearby.
The investigators recorded the incident in the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations under Article 128 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which addresses negligent infliction of serious or moderate bodily harm. The maximum penalty for this offense is up to two years of imprisonment.
"As part of the investigation, a series of forensic examinations have been appointed, and all circumstances of the incident are being established. The investigation is ongoing under the procedural guidance of the Izmail District Prosecutor's Office," the statement said.
