Illegal Fishing Incident: Arrest Made
An individual has been arrested for causing damages to the state exceeding 650 thousand hryvnias. He faces a potential imprisonment of up to three years.
This morning, during a joint patrol near the village of Kalaghliya, officers from the Odessa district water police and border guards apprehended a 24-year-old local resident engaged in illegal fishing with prohibited tools. He lacked any permits for fishing activities.
Investigators on the scene seized the offender's fishing gear, two nets totaling 200 meters, and 287 fish with a total weight of 180 kilograms, which included: herring, carp, bream, crucian carp, perch, and others. All items were transferred to a specialized storage facility.
According to preliminary assessments, the fisherman’s actions resulted in damages to the state exceeding 650 thousand hryvnias.
The case has been registered in the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations under Article 249 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, concerning illegal fishing that caused significant harm. An ecological examination has been appointed to determine the exact amount of damage caused. After the necessary investigative actions and receiving the expert conclusion, a decision will be made regarding the suspect.
The investigation is ongoing under the supervision of the Chornomorsk District Prosecutor's Office.
