Illegal Tobacco Cultivation Discovered in Odesa Region
This was reported by the head of BEB detectives, Oleksandr Tkachuk, during a round table with the Association "Ukrtyun".
According to BEB, 16 greenhouses were set up in the field within the Ovidiopol community in the Odesa region. Tobacco was grown using drip irrigation systems, creating optimal conditions for plant growth.
After the harvest, the tobacco leaves were dried in specially equipped rooms for several months. The dried raw material was then processed through an industrial line and packaged into boxes. According to the investigation, the finished product was intended for illegal sale across Ukraine, labeled as products of well-known brands.
BEB detectives seized nearly 56 tons of grown and processed tobacco. They also confiscated planting equipment, irrigation hoses, and an industrial line for drying and grinding tobacco. The seized materials were sent for necessary judicial examinations as part of the investigation.
