High School Students Engage with Antarctic Researchers Online

Students from High School No. 56 in Odesa recently participated in an online meeting with biologists from the Ukrainian Antarctic station «Academician Vernadsky». This encounter provided children with a glimpse into the world of science and insight into life on the frozen continent. According to reports from High School No. 56,
the students engaged in a Zoom meeting with members of the 30th Ukrainian Antarctic expedition. Connecting directly from Antarctica were biologist Elizaveta Safonova, a native of our city, and her colleague, biologist Taras Peretyatko.
The researchers shared information about the unique flora and fauna of the Argentine Islands, discussed their scientific studies conducted in Antarctica, and emphasized the significance of climate change issues in this region.
The students showed particular interest in discussions about the daily life of polar researchers.
They learned how scientists live at the station, the challenges they face every day, and the discoveries they make during their expeditions.
The meeting concluded with an active «Q&A session» where students received honest answers to their inquiries and felt pride for the Ukrainian scientists representing the country in one of the planet's most remote areas.
