New Initiatives for Student Nutrition in Ukraine
On October 4, 2024, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine enacted a decree to fund the nutrition of primary school students from the state budget.
According to the decree, 70% of the expenses for the nutrition of students in grades 1-4 will be covered by state funds, while the remaining 30% must be provided from local budgets.
Oksana Buinevych, the director of the Department of Education and Science, announced that a draft decision for the Odesa City Council will be prepared shortly.
It is planned that around 20,000 students in grades 1-4 in Odesa will benefit from free meals.
«After approval by the deputies and allocation of funds from the city budget, the next step will be to conduct a tender. Currently, only students from underprivileged categories in grades 1-4 are provided meals from the city budget in Odesa», - emphasized the head of the City Department of Education.
