Accessibility in Odessa's Healthcare Sector
Ensuring that individuals with disabilities have access to quality medical care is a priority for the Odessa Department of Health.
The principle of accessibility is being implemented in all municipal healthcare facilities in the city of Odessa.
The Department conducts ongoing monitoring of accessibility in city healthcare institutions, involving representatives from governmental structures and NGOs that advocate for the quality of life of people with disabilities, to take into account their needs and wishes.
When planning and conducting renovation works, it is mandatory to ensure barrier-free access for individuals with disabilities to healthcare infrastructure. This includes the installation of convenient ramps for those using wheelchairs or crutches. Doors comply with building codes, sanitary facilities are properly equipped, handrails are installed, and mirrors are placed at accessible heights for wheelchair users.
Healthcare facilities have designated parking spaces marked accordingly, tactile paving is installed, elevators are functional, and information navigation is provided in Braille. Additional examination rooms for patients, including those with special needs, operate on the ground floors.
Recently, several renovation projects have been completed in Odessa's healthcare facilities, focusing on inclusivity and ensuring accessibility and safety for people with limited mobility:
