Innovative Approaches in Treating Pulmonary Embolism in Ukraine

Last week, Odesa hosted a pioneering masterclass at City Clinical Hospital No. 10, focusing on the endovascular treatment of massive pulmonary embolism (PE).

Cardiologists, interventional and vascular surgeons, and anesthesiologists from various regions of Ukraine gathered to gain practical knowledge for integrating innovations into their daily practice. The course was conducted by Artem Hovorov, head of the interventional cardiology department at the St. Michael's Clinical Hospital in Kyiv, who presented advanced techniques from both Ukrainian and European specialists.

Medical professionals emphasize that PE, which involves the obstruction of the pulmonary artery branches by a thrombus, poses a critical risk and can lead to patient death, making it as serious a challenge for doctors as heart attacks and strokes. Thus, the theoretical knowledge and practical skills acquired are essential for improving patient care and outcomes.

“Development, continuous education, and keeping pace with time are the philosophies of modern medicine. Therefore, we constantly implement cutting-edge technologies, both in equipment and methodologies,” stated Denis Sebov, the hospital's director.

The Odesa city authorities are systematically working to upgrade the medical equipment in local healthcare facilities, particularly in multiprofile cluster hospitals.

Last year, City Clinical Hospital No. 10 received modern equipment for surgical interventions, radiological operation control, and laboratory services.
