Expanding Horizons in Stroke Treatment: Insights from Odesa Doctors
Specialists from Odesa City Clinical Hospital No. 10 participated in the 13th Winter Stroke School held in Bern, Switzerland. The event gathered leading experts from 20 countries who discussed innovative treatment methods and shared practical experiences.
The program included the latest international guidelines for stroke treatment in 2026, case studies, and hands-on skills training in the angiography room and on specialized mannequins.
The Bern University Clinic served as the training base, where sessions on managing patients with acute ischemic stroke and workshops on modern endovascular techniques were conducted for doctors.
The training was organized in pairs, consisting of a neurologist and a neuro-radiologist, ensuring an interdisciplinary approach that is the standard for effective functioning of stroke centers worldwide.
"This was a fascinating and invaluable experience – to observe how stroke care is organized in Switzerland, to interact with colleagues from various countries, and to discuss complex clinical cases. It was gratifying that foreign experts were impressed by our experience and the rapid development of stroke care in Ukraine," noted Oleksandr Skrypka, head of the angiographic surgery and interventional neuro-radiology department at Clinical Hospital No. 10.
The modern knowledge and skills acquired during this international training will be utilized by Odesa doctors to enhance the quality of medical care provided to patients.
